Nancy McGuire, of Ancient Strokes Design Studios, located
in Brick, New Jersey, has always had a love of the arts, music,
and European architecture. During early childhood, several
art instructors had advised her to consider cartoon illustration.
Excelling also in music, she was torn between the two. Eventually
she pursued what her family insisted would be the most practical
route. She received training in computer science and graphic arts.
A web applications developer with fortune 500 companies for many
years, her career brought her to a company based out of NYC where
Nancy handled the design, maintenance and administration for 150
large fortune 500 web applications which tracked visa immigration
for companies such as Price Waterhouse Coopers, IBM, Lucent Technologies,
CISCO Systems and Ernst & Young. Nancy also handled the Design
and Analysis for a large facilities management system for The
New York City Department of Sanitation while working for an environmental
consultant in NYC. She continued on this career path but became
increasingly discontent. It was in the mid 1990s when Nancy
began pursuing artistic endeavors in her spare time to meet her
need for artistic expression.
Just a few months after 9-11, her local office was closed
and all programming jobs were outsourced to India. Forced
to do some soul searching, it was then she began to get back to
the creative arts full time that she excelled in and loved so
dearly as a young child. During this time, several friends and
neighbors who had seen her work kept insisting she open up her
own venetian plaster decorative business. And although she had
not yet opened a business, the requests began coming in. It became
more and more evident that this was the right niche. She began
to research the availability of the genuine Italian plasters found
in Italy, and found what she was looking for at The School of
Italian Plasters in GA where she received her training. Nancy
believes the art of Italian Plastering has opened the door to
the artistic expression she was designed for. She continues training
and working to hone her artistic abilities and will be visiting
Italy this fall for advanced training with SAFRA.
Some of her large-scale projects include a newly constructed
14,000 sq foot home in Wall, NJ, an 8,000 sq foot waterfront home
in Brielle, NJ, and currently, a prestigious 10,000 sq foot beachfront
property in Pt. Pleasant, NJ. She continues to do high-end
residential work, but is interested in branching out to include
commercial work. Nancy has recently had several high-end interior
designers request her services for large-scale projects in both
Northern and Southern New Jersey.
One of her upcoming projects will be her most challenging yet.
She was given free reign to develop a color scheme and create
unique finishes for an entire home in a local prestigious waterfront
community.
