After 10 years of finding creative ways to texture walls with joint compound, Victor Knarreborg traded in his drywall tools to become one of San Diego’s most prolific and talented applicators of Safra Venetian plaster and lived up to his adopted nickname, “Victorino”. “I feel blessed to have been given the opportunity to get in on the ground level of Doyle and Linda’s training program in San Diego. I make regular visits back to the school to pick up materials but mostly to pick Linda and Doyle’s brains on the secrets of applying plaster. Needless to say, I am not too happy about them moving to Texas.”
Victor has been steadily increasing his business and expertise while working in some of San Diego’s more prestigious areas. “Doing Venetian plaster has allowed me to be in homes I never realized existed.” Working in luxury homes in La Jolla and Rancho Santa Fe, Victor has added his touch of style to some of San Diego’s most exclusive homes. “Even though I am a native San Diegan, I had no idea before this profession what beautiful homes with spectacular views were in our city. I am honored that people invite me into their luxurious living spaces to request my opinion and expertise on Venetian plaster.”
One of America’s most beautiful cities, San Diego is a perfect match for Venetian plaster. In the past there has been a strong Spanish influence because of its proximity to Mexico, but the architectural emphasis in recent years has shifted to a Mediterranean style. Most new home developments and new business districts have a distinctive Mediterranean appearance to them. This makes Italian plaster a natural for San Diego homes and businesses. “I can’t imagine a more beautiful place than San Diego to apply Italian plaster although someday I anticipating a call to travel to an exotic place to work on someone’s vacation home.”
Victor has been aggressive to promote his plaster services. Utilizing his van as a marketing tool, he created not only a company identity, but a rolling billboard for Venetian plaster with positive results. “Getting the word out every chance I get has paid off. The other contributing factor has been the enthusiastic response of the people in this city seeking a Mediterranean atmosphere for their homes. To my surprise, our Race Calce finish with its distinctive old world look has been one of my most requested finishes.”
His business has been increasing so rapidly that Victor is now soliciting the help of other San Diego applicators that are experienced and trained in Safra products. According to Doyle, “at his current production rate, Victor is our leading applicator in San Diego. There’s no doubt with his strong selling ability and marketing drive, second only to mine, he will continue to be one of our top producers.”
