This is a great business! My experience as a fauxfinisher and
decorative artist began seventeen years ago. I painted furniture
until there was so much stuff I opened a shop with other artists
to sell our extra stuff. From there I was asked to paint murals
or do a faux finish on the walls. I read books on faux finishing
and managed to learn from my mistakes. I found out I really like
creating beautiful wall finishes as well as designing and painting
murals. I've taken several faux finishing courses, some local
to Washington D.C. as well as traveling to Atlanta, Louisville,
Chicago and Italy to study. The past five years I've studied portrait
painting and academic painting with Russian artists. Part of my
training has been with Yannick Guegin, a French decorative artist.
I took Doyles' class in September of 2002, bought the student
kit, loaded up my van with product, and drove home to Virginia
knowing the authentic Italian Plasters would be easy to sell.
The very next week I was doing a dining room in aquarello with
interest and a powder room in montovano. I had mentioned to my
client that I was attending a great class on some new products
and when I came back home she very willingly gave me the green
light. Since then I have done over thirty projects using a variety
of plasters, veneziano, calchenova arredo, stucco romano, fiorentino,
murs'dart, aquarello etc. etc. It's been exciting to discover
that I can combine my mural painting with the plasters. Old world
wall designs can be created with murs'dart. Fiorentino, a resin
based plaster, is a beautiful backdrop for murals and using marmorino
and calchenova as a lime base I'm working on fresco painting.
Adding the safra, Artnova products to the services that I offer
has been rewarding, both creatively and financially. Being applicator
of the month gives me the opportunity to tell everyone that the
products are exemplary. And Doyle and Linda are a great support
team.
